Exciting News: Apple to Enhance Genmoji in iOS 27 with Smart Auto-Suggestions – 9to5Mac

Apple is introducing an exciting feature called Genmoji in iOS 27. This new addition will suggest custom emojis based on your photo library and previous typing habits, according to the Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman.

Genmoji originally launched in iOS 18.2, allowing users to create personalized emojis by simply typing a prompt. While it had its ups and downs, Apple improved it in iOS 26. Users could mix emojis and enjoy deeper customization. Now, with iOS 27, Genmoji is set to evolve even further.

“Suggested Genmoji are created from your photos and your commonly typed phrases,” says a new toggle in the keyboard settings for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. This feature will be optional, so users can choose if they want to use it.

This feature could be fantastic if it works well, particularly if it understands context. However, it’s understandable to have concerns about automatic emoji generation from personal data. Thankfully, Apple is allowing users to disable this feature if they prefer.

There’s still some uncertainty about whether Genmoji will continue using on-device models in iOS 27, as there hasn’t been an announcement about updates to the image models.

In recent years, personalized tech features have gained traction. A study by Pew Research found that 72% of Americans are concerned about their privacy when using new technology. This emphasizes the need for options that allow users to maintain control over their data, which Apple seems to be addressing with this feature.

Overall, the Genmoji feature highlights a significant shift in how we communicate digitally. It showcases the blending of creativity and technology, making our online interactions more personal and fun.
