A shelter-in-place order in South Austin has been lifted after police took two suspects into custody related to several weekend shootings. However, one suspect is still at large in the Manor area.
According to Police Chief Lisa Davis, authorities are looking into ten incidents that occurred from late Saturday to early Sunday. One person suffered serious injuries, while three others had minor injuries.
The shootings, mostly in South Austin, appear random. The suspects are reported to be using multiple vehicles, including a black or dark blue Hyundai Sonata, a gold Hyundai sedan, and a silver Mazda. As of 2:15 p.m., they were believed to be driving a white Kia Optima. Both suspects are male and likely in their late teens.
Community Safety Tips
To increase community safety, Chief Davis advised residents to secure their vehicles. “Don’t leave your cars unlocked,” she said. “Ensure you take your keys or key fobs with you.” Vehicle thefts have been rising in recent months, highlighting the importance of vigilance.
Public Response
Social media has been buzzing with reactions to the shootings, with many community members expressing fear and urging each other to stay safe. A recent survey indicated that 60% of residents in urban areas are increasingly worried about random violence, emphasizing a growing concern for safety in public spaces.
