Duke University Kicks Off NCAA Regional Play in Arizona This Monday: Get Ready for the Action!

Duke Men’s Golf Team Heads to NCAA Regional

The Duke men’s golf team is gearing up for the Marana Regional of the NCAA Championship, starting May 18 in Arizona. This tournament is crucial as they look to secure a spot in the national championship later this month.

This year marks the 34th NCAA Regional appearance for Duke and the first under new head coach Bob Heintz. The team is currently ranked 29th and enters as the fifth seed. They’ll compete against top teams like Oklahoma State and LSU, making for a challenging field.

The Marana Regional is one of six regional tournaments across the U.S. The top five teams and the best individual player from a non-advancing team will move on to the NCAA Championship, scheduled for May 29 in Carlsbad, California.

Duke’s Lineup

Duke’s lineup includes:

  • Bryan Kim (Junior)
  • William Love (Senior)
  • Ethan Evans (Senior)
  • Daniel Choi (Senior)
  • Ollie Mukherjee (Sophomore)

Sam Mukherjee will be the substitute. The Blue Devils will start their round at 7:30 a.m. MST, teeing off from the 10th hole.

Season Highlights

The Blue Devils enjoyed a solid season, clinching the title at the Rod Myers Invitational. They’ve also had four runner-up finishes and recently took sixth at the ACC Championship. Bryan Kim has stood out with a national ranking of 17 and impressive performances throughout the year.

NCAA Experience

Duke aims to advance from this regional round after falling short last year. In past tournaments, Evans has shown stellar play, tying for second at the Baton Rouge Regional and competing at the national championship.

Community Impact

In addition to their on-course efforts, the team is involved in a charitable initiative called Birdies for Babies. This program, led by Virginia Elena Carta, raises funds for the Duke Children’s Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units. So far this season, they’ve raised over $16,000 and contributed nearly $150,000 over nine years. The program’s success has allowed Duke Children’s Hospital to dedicate a room to its cause.
