Transform Your Sundays: Embrace Fitness and an Active Lifestyle with ‘Sundays on Cycle’ – The Tribune

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre recently teamed up with the GST and Customs Department for an exciting event called “Sundays on Cycle.” The goal? To inspire people to get fit and stay active.

Cyclists from all walks of life—athletes, officials, and fitness fans—came together for this celebration. Around a hundred cyclists participated, riding a 10-kilometer route from the SAI Training Centre to the GST Office and back. This vibrant gathering was led by Customs Commissioner Varinder Kaur and GST Commissioner Sugreev Meena, who encouraged everyone to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

The event echoed the slogan, “Fitness ki dose, aadha ghanta roz,” reminding folks that even just thirty minutes of exercise each day can make a big difference in fighting obesity and lifestyle diseases. This push for fitness is more important than ever. Recent studies show that sedentary lifestyles are on the rise, especially among the youth. According to a 2022 survey by the World Health Organization, over 80% of adolescents worldwide are not getting enough physical activity.

In a similar spirit, 30 students from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) took part in a bicycle ride organized by the newly launched PAU Pedal Club. This initiative aimed to encourage students to adopt cycling as a healthy habit. The ride was flagged off by KS Suri, the Director of Student Welfare, who praised the students for balancing their busy schedules with their commitment to fitness.

Paramvir Singh Grewal, who oversees cycling initiatives at PAU, joined the ride and motivated everyone to keep cycling for their health and the environment. The strong turnout reinforced the PAU Pedal Club’s mission to spread a cycling culture among students and faculty.

Efforts like these show a growing trend in community fitness. Many cities are now hosting regular cycling events and fitness meet-ups on social media, promoting health and well-being. As more people rally around these activities, the hope is to foster lasting changes in lifestyle choices.

It’s clear that both events not only highlight the joy of cycling but also the importance of community engagement in promoting health. When we come together, we can make fitness a fun part of everyday life.
