If you used Windows 10, you likely enjoyed customizing the Taskbar. In Windows 11, those options were limited for a while. But good news is on the horizon! Microsoft is now rolling out complete support for Taskbar and Start Menu customization. Windows Insiders in the Experimental channel will see these updates soon.
You’ll be able to move the Taskbar to the top, bottom, left, or right of your screen. Users can also adjust icon alignment to suit their style—choose from top, center, left, or right alignment. All these settings can be found in Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar behaviors. Plus, there’s an option for smaller icons, helping to free up screen space.
Another exciting change coming is the revamped Start Menu. Insiders will be able to adjust its size, decide to show or hide sections like Pinned and Recent, and even hide their name and profile photo for more privacy. This is a big deal since the original Windows 11 came with a standard look that didn’t allow for much personalization.
Interestingly, Microsoft is also splitting the Start Menu’s file recommendations from File Explorer. This means that turning off recommendations in Start won’t affect your recent files in File Explorer, which is a handy feature for multitaskers.
These updates are set to roll out over the next few weeks, with regular Windows 11 users on versions 24H2, 25H2, and 26H1 expected to gain access soon after.
