Sony is set to unveil its new 10th-anniversary headphones, dubbed the “ColleXion” Edition, and excitement is building. Recent leaks show the headphones will have thicker padding and larger ear cups compared to the current WH-1000XM6 series.
This model was hinted at earlier in April when the “ColleXion” name appeared on Sony’s site, generating much curiosity. Now, we have images and details, including a launch date of May 19th, priced at $649 in the U.S.—$200 more than its XM6 predecessors.
For this price increase, buyers will enjoy a choice of black or white colors and premium design features. The metallic yokes connecting the headband to the drivers look particularly sleek, while the buttons have been redesigned for easier use. Battery life is impressive too, with up to 24 hours available, extending to 32 hours when noise cancellation (ANC) is turned off. This ANC is powered by a V3 co-processor, paired with the existing QN3 processor found in the XM6.
Sony has collaborated with renowned studios, such as Battery Studios and Sterling Sound, to fine-tune the audio experience, aiming for top-notch sound quality.
The headphones will come with a carry case that stands out from previous designs. Unlike the usual zipper case, this one has a stylish handbag appearance, complete with a handle and magnetic closure—definitely an upgrade in design.
With the recent trend toward high-quality audio gear, the ColleXion Edition taps into a growing market. According to a recent survey, 57% of consumers now prioritize sound quality over brand name when choosing headphones.
