Roshumba Williams made a splash in 1990 when she became one of the first African American models featured in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. Now, she’s back as a legendary figure in the magazine.
Recently, Williams had a photoshoot in Jamaica with photographer Yu Tsai for the upcoming 2025 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, set to debut in May. While we wait for the full release, the sneak peek is already captivating.
Williams shared her emotions about the shoot, saying, “It brings a smile to my heart and tears to my eyes knowing that more than 30 years later, I’m still considered part of the SI family. It signifies that my beauty is still valued, accepted, and relevant among various types of beauty. It’s mind-blowing, breathtaking, and humbling, and I’m beyond grateful.” This heartfelt message highlights the importance of representation in the fashion industry.
Her journey began in Paris in 1987 when Yves Saint Laurent discovered her. Since then, Williams has walked countless runways, graced the cover of Vogue, and even ventured into acting. Today, she’s not just a model but also a fashion expert for the On The Red Carpet team, where she covers major events like the Oscars and Emmys.
At the Emmy Awards last year, Williams wowed everyone by wearing $5 million worth of diamonds paired with a stunning pink metal gown by designer Nicole Fedner. This year, she is set to bring her insights and style expertise to the 2025 Oscars, airing on March 2. Williams will join entertainment reporter George Pennacchio, fashion expert Joe Zee, and KABC’s Leslie Lopez for live coverage.
