Bharat Forge has teamed up with the Andhra Pradesh government to create India’s first private hub for marine gas turbine repair and development in Visakhapatnam. This project signals a major step forward in India’s defense industry, as it aims to enhance local capabilities and lessen reliance on foreign suppliers.
The facility will be built on 80 acres near key naval sites, such as the INS Eksila and the Eastern Naval Command headquarters. The agreement was made at a recent Aerospace and Defence Investment Conclave, attended by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Marine gas turbines are crucial for powering many Indian Navy ships. Historically, maintenance work has depended on international supply chains. However, recent disruptions have highlighted the need for local solutions. Bharat Forge aims to tackle this by establishing a full-scale repair and overhaul center. This center will feature advanced capabilities, including hot-section restoration for turbine components, and a 72-hour turnaround for repairs.
In the second phase, the project will also set up India’s first private facility for developing and assembling marine gas turbines, complete with testing capabilities.
