Athens, Ga. — The Rice Men’s Golf team is competing in the NCAA Athens Regional at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
After a challenging round, the Owls ended the day at 12-over par, putting them in 12th place overall at +7. Senior Lukas Boandl is tied for 31st at even par, finishing with a 74. Meanwhile, sophomore Daniel Zou had the best round for Rice, carding a 73 to sit at +1 in a tie for 39th place.
Freshman Raines Watson and junior Reggie Zhu both shot 75. Watson is tied for 47th at +3, while Zhu is close behind at +4 in 52nd place. Redshirt junior Henry Daly is in 63rd at +6 after also scoring a 74.
Vanderbilt, ranked No. 13, leads the tournament at -22, three strokes ahead of No. 36 Louisville. Vanderbilt’s Will Hartman tops the individual leaderboard at -12, just ahead of Louisiana’s Malan Potgieter.
Rice’s head coach, Justin Emil, commented, “We had a painful day out there. We got behind early due to some mistakes, and it was tough to recover. These guys still have more golf to play, and you can count on them to bounce back tomorrow.”
The final round kicks off tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. CT. Rice will tee off at 8:25 from hole No. 10, competing alongside teams from Kansas and Southern Miss.
