The South Dakota Coyotes women’s tennis team is welcoming a new player, Sonya Issakova, for the 2026-27 season. Issakova is transferring from Murray State University, where she had a solid freshman year.
Coach Pasha Zinechenko expressed his excitement about the addition. He believes Issakova will be a game-changer for the team. “Our program gets an excellent player, and Sonya gets a fresh start with new coaching and teammates,” he said. He looks forward to the positive impact she’ll bring.
Originally from Almaty, Kazakhstan, Issakova is noteworthy for being the highest world-ranked recruit in Murray State’s history. During her junior career, she reached an impressive ITF World Junior Ranking of No. 209 and won five ITF World Junior singles titles plus one in doubles in 2024.
Issakova’s achievements include victories in key competitions like those at Issyk-Kul, Cholpon-Ata, and Namangan, showcasing her talent on an international stage.
