In Surprise, Arizona, the sixth-seeded Flagler College tennis team made a strong statement by defeating No. 27 Queens College 4-0. This victory propels Flagler into the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II National Championship.
Flagler now boasts a remarkable record, with 21 wins this season, including 14 against ranked opponents. Tomorrow, they’ll face third-seeded Lubbock Christian University, ranked No. 12. The match is set for noon.
In doubles play, Flagler dominated. Aniss Rafiq and Oliver Hradilek triumphed with a solid 6-1 win over Tim Andersson and Jamie Foix Sotos on court three. On court one, the No. 30 duo of Simon Malis and Ilian Borlee extended their impressive winning streak to 11 matches, defeating Samuel Linck and Said Akbarov, also 6-1.
When singles play began, Flagler’s dominance continued. Four of the six sets ended in 6-1 victories. Simon Malis, ranked No. 17, won his match against Akbarov with scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Meanwhile, No. 73 Aly El Rafie secured his first win of the day, taking down Tim Andersson with two 6-1 sets. The clinching match came from No. 35 Rafiq, who defeated Adam Laur 6-3 and 6-1 on court two.
