WWE star Ludwig Kaiser, known for his role as El Grande Americano, was arrested today in Orange County, Florida. His real name is Marcel Barthel. Officials charged him with battery, and he was booked at 2:37 PM.
According to PWInsider, he was released later that night after paying a $1000 bail.
Reports from Sean Ross Sapp at Fightful suggest that Kaiser was involved in a confrontation with another man. As of now, more details about the incident are yet to come out.
Kaiser has been part of WWE since June 2017 and has won the NXT Tag Team Championship twice. Recently, he stepped into the role of El Grande Americano after Chad Gable was injured. Now that Gable is back, the two are set to battle over who is the true Americano, with a mask vs. mask match scheduled for WWE AAA Noche De Los Grandes on May 30 in Monterrey.
Interestingly, although he plays a villain on WWE Raw, Kaiser is a fan favorite in his El Grande Americano persona in Mexico’s AAA wrestling. He leads a group called Los Americanos, which includes Rayo and Bravo Americano, played by Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate.
Wrestling expert and former WWE agent, Jim Ross, commented on the contrasting character dynamics, noting how the same wrestler can portray different identities in various promotions, enhancing their appeal to different audiences.
Upcoming matches at Noche De Los Grandes also feature Bayley, La Catalina, and Lola Vice against Las Toxicas and a championship clash between El Hijo De Dr Wagner Jr and El Hijo Del Vikingo. The AAA World Tag Team Championship will also be defended by Pagano and Psycho Clown against the War Raiders.
This incident sheds light on how the pressures of being in the public eye can impact wrestlers. Public perception can shift quickly based on off-ring actions, making it crucial for athletes to maintain a positive image.
