Google DeepMind is starting its first accelerator program in the Asia-Pacific region, aiming to use advanced AI to tackle serious environmental issues. Named “AI for the Planet,” this program focuses on urgent challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable resource use.
The Asia-Pacific region plays a big role in global growth but is also highly vulnerable to climate impacts. A recent study shows that while there are many green technologies, they’re not being adopted fast enough to meet rising environmental threats. The AI for the Planet program seeks to change that by speeding up innovation and implementation.
This three-month accelerator is open to startups, research teams, and non-profits working in APAC. Participants will harness cutting-edge AI to tackle issues in key areas such as nature conservation, climate action, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy.
Selected participants will receive mentorship from Google AI experts and customized support. A major focus will be integrating advanced AI models into existing projects, both to enhance their effectiveness and broaden their reach. This initiative aims to empower those already working on climate solutions to amplify their impact.
