Gabriela Gonzalez, the former girlfriend of Jack Avery from the boy band Why Don’t We, faces serious legal trouble. She has been charged with attempting to hire a hitman via the dark web to kill him. This shocking case arose from a custody battle over their 7-year-old daughter.
Gonzalez, 24, is not alone in this. Her father, Francisco Gonzalez, and her then-boyfriend, Kai Cordrey, are also charged with attempted murder and conspiracy. Prosecutor Nathan Hochman highlighted the lengths to which they allegedly went to find someone to carry out the crime.
Authorities began investigating after a tip-off from the FBI. The charges came after Gabriela supposedly got Cordrey’s help to find a hitman between 2020 and 2021. Reports indicate that Francisco Gonzalez sent $10,000 to Cordrey for this purpose, adding more funds later when the supposed hitman requested it.
Things took a turn in September 2021 when an undercover officer, posing as a hitman, contacted Cordrey. During their conversation, Cordrey allegedly confirmed that Avery was the intended target, discussing payments and even proof of death.
Gabriela, who has over 450,000 Instagram followers, is currently held on a $2 million bail. Her attorney has not commented on the case. Meanwhile, Francisco was arrested in Florida and is waiting to be extradited. Cordrey’s bail is also set at $2 million, with no attorney listed for him either.
If found guilty, each could face up to life in prison. Such drastic actions showcase the extreme measures some take in custody disputes. In fact, similar cases have been reported where personal conflicts escalate dangerously, shedding light on the emotional toll of custody battles.
