Recently, my class dove into the concepts of the circular economy and biomimicry. For their final project, students used the engineering design process to tackle local or global issues, focusing on climate change through the lens of nanotechnology and nanoparticles.

The first resource was a comprehensive teaching tool about the circular economy provided by the Environmental Education Initiative. Through this website, my students examined how participating in a circular economy can positively affect our planet. For instance, bats’ echolocation led to radar technology, and geckos’ ability to climb inspires adhesives. Nature provides endless ideas for problem-solving.
This resource not only introduced students to biomimicry but also served as a handy guide during their design projects. Its practical lessons made complex concepts accessible and engaging for students.
