He was even named the organization’s minor league pitcher of the year last season.
However, Mautz’s stay in the big leagues might be short-lived. The Cardinals’ rotation is generally healthy, with veterans like Dustin May and Matthew Liberatore offering solid performances. Michael McGreevy is also off to a strong start, and Kyle Leahy’s transition to the rotation has been smooth.
