In Vadodara, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal recently spoke about the rising fuel prices that are hitting many in Gujarat hard. He noticed long lines at petrol stations and highlighted the struggles farmers are facing with diesel availability. Kejriwal urged the Indian government to purchase oil and gas from Russia and Iran at lower prices to help alleviate these struggles.
He pointed out that diesel and petrol prices have surged amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia. According to reports, major oil companies in India have increased petrol prices by about ₹4.74 per litre and diesel prices by approximately ₹4.82 per litre in recent weeks. Despite these hikes, sources from oil marketing companies have stated that there is no shortage of fuel in the country.
Interestingly, as global oil prices fluctuate, many countries are looking for cheaper alternatives. For instance, Russia and Iran have been positioned as potential suppliers, but the Indian government has yet to make significant moves in that direction. This situation draws attention to how external factors can directly impact local economies, especially in regions like Gujarat where many depend on fuel for their livelihoods.
Kejriwal also addressed another issue during his visit: supporting NEET-UG candidates. He proposed that the Gujarat government offer free bus services for students traveling to their re-examination. This initiative follows similar moves in Punjab and Haryana, where state governments have waived transportation fees for candidates, easing some of their financial burden.
The NEET-UG exam, which affects thousands of aspiring medical students, faced disruptions earlier this year due to a paper leak. The re-exam set for June 21 is crucial for these students, many of whom feel stressed and anxious about the situation.
As Kejriwal underscores the various challenges posed by rising fuel costs and educational pressures, it raises a broader question: how can governments adapt to ensure relief for their citizens? Addressing these concerns could lead to more informed discussions about national policies, especially in times of economic strain.
