Prince George’s County has appointed Adriana Caldarelli as the Interim Director of the Department of the Environment (DoE), starting January 27, 2025. She takes over from Andrea L. Crooms, who recently left the position.
The Acting County Executive, Jackson, expressed excitement about Caldarelli’s new role, highlighting her strong commitment to environmental issues. “Her vision and passion for sustainability are just what we need,” Jackson stated. He believes Caldarelli will successfully carry forward the county’s environmental goals.
Caldarelli has a strong track record in environmental management. She was pivotal in launching the “Bag it Right” campaign, which aims to cut down single-use plastics and encourage reusable bags. She pointed out, “Plastic bags are everywhere. They are often found in clean-up efforts across our streets and waterways.”
Before joining Prince George’s County, Caldarelli led the Stormwater Institute at the Water Environment Federation and directed the National Green Infrastructure Certification Program. This program focused on training the workforce to properly maintain and inspect green infrastructure. She also spent 17 years at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, where she specialized in stormwater and water quality policies.
