DAYTON, Ohio — Peggy and Victor Dubrowski have made a generous donation of $1.5 million to the University of Dayton’s Center for Catholic Education. This contribution aims to prepare future Catholic educators, as highlighted in a recent university announcement.
Darlene Weaver, the provost, emphasized the importance of strong educators in Catholic schools. She stated, “Catholic schools need educators who teach and inspire, blending faith and learning in ways that truly shape students’ lives.” This donation will help support Catholic educators and their students in meaningful ways.
The Center for Catholic Education has three key programs:
- Empowering Local School Children With Hope and Opportunity: This program offers counseling and social-emotional learning to students in various schools.
- Lalanne: This initiative provides mentorship and professional development for new teachers in under-resourced schools.
- The Saint Remy Initiative: This program trains school leaders to weave faith into all subjects, creating a unique Catholic learning environment.
Peggy Dubrowski, a University of Dayton alumna and experienced Catholic educator, expressed her hope for this initiative. She said, “Catholic schools face sustained pressure from a culture that opposes the truth and beauty of our faith. Catholic educators need the tools to integrate this faith into every subject with bold clarity and confidence.” She wants the University of Dayton to be the first choice for those interested in training Catholic educators.
The university also plans to search for a new executive director for the Center, highlighting the ongoing commitment to its mission. The Dubrowskis have been long-time contributors to the school, and their generosity will significantly influence K-12 teacher training, enriching Catholic education across the region.
