Join the Celebration: Pacific Park in Santa Monica Marks 30 Years of Family Fun!

Pacific Park at Santa Monica Pier just turned 30! That’s right, three decades since amusement rides made a comeback here for the first time since the 1930s.

The park celebrated this milestone with a dazzling birthday light show on its famous Pacific Wheel. It lit up the night with “Happy Birthday” messages and a glowing birthday cake, all while overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

Since its grand opening on May 26, 1996, Pacific Park has transformed the pier into a vibrant spot for entertainment and community events. It now attracts over 12 million visitors each year, making it one of Southern California’s top destinations, as noted by the Santa Monica Daily Press.

CEO Jeff Klocke reflected on how meaningful this anniversary is. He mentioned that the first amusement rides in decades brought life back to the pier, creating a place for fun and togetherness.

Over the years, Pacific Park has introduced several notable features. In 1998, it unveiled the world’s first solar-powered Ferris wheel, emphasizing sustainability and its seaside connection. A significant upgrade in 2008 added an impressive LED lighting system, further establishing the Pacific Wheel as a Los Angeles icon. It even earned a Guinness World Record in 2012!

Beyond rides, the park has built strong ties with the community. Partnerships with local organizations like Santa Monica PAL and Special Olympics Southern California highlight its commitment to giving back. Klocke stressed that the park has become part of local traditions, serving as more than just a tourist attraction.

Some fun facts from the past 30 years: Pacific Park has delivered nearly 100 million rides across 12 attractions. Visitors have enjoyed over 4.5 million scoops of ice cream, 4.1 million cups of coffee, and more than 1.8 million churros! It’s a testament to the park’s role in family gatherings and community enjoyment.

Now, Pacific Park features 12 thrilling rides, oceanfront dining options, and even beachside shopping, all focused around the iconic Pacific Wheel. Plus, it holds the title of Los Angeles’ only admission-free amusement park!

To kick off the anniversary celebrations, Pacific Park hosted a “Locals’ Night” on May 21, showing gratitude to the community that has supported the pier for years. Klocke emphasized the importance of the Santa Monica Pier as a cherished public space where families have created lasting memories.

As Pacific Park looks ahead, it continues to blend innovation with tradition, making it a beloved destination for both locals and visitors alike.
