South Florida artist D.R.O.S.K.I is creating a unique blend of soulful beats and thoughtful lyrics. Growing up in West Palm Beach with Dominican roots, music was always part of his life. His father and grandfather were musicians, so creativity surrounded him from a young age.
In a recent chat with Remixd Magazine, D.R.O.S.K.I shared insights about his journey and his latest project, Tropes Of A Sage. Initially passionate about basketball, he naturally transitioned to hip-hop. “Music has always been a big part of my family,” he said. “It just kind of chose me.” Now, after more than ten years, he’s carving a space that reflects authenticity and introspection.
The name D.R.O.S.K.I is personal; he was called “Dro” or “Droski” in high school, which became his artist identity. His music blends storytelling with smooth rap. It features jazzy sounds, soulful samples, and lyrics that invite deep thought. Influenced by legends like Lil Wayne, Nas, and 2Pac, he also admires Curren$y for his style.
A significant moment for him was listening to Madvillainy by MF DOOM and Madlib. This sparked his serious interest in rap, while producers like J Dilla inspired him to explore music production.
D.R.O.S.K.I’s latest project, Tropes Of A Sage, showcases his technical skills and relaxed vibe. Rather than pushing direct messages, the album aims to create an atmosphere for listeners. The track “Petty Crimes” stands out, offering a unique energy that resonates with fans despite lacking a traditional hook.
Collaboration has been key. He credits producer Doc Marzy for helping develop a fresh sound. “Effortless” is how he describes their working relationship.
As his career grows, D.R.O.S.K.I’s music is reaching audiences far beyond Florida. He’s performed in places like Brooklyn and found fans in countries like Japan, Brazil, and Australia. This global support feels surreal to him. Looking ahead, he plans to continue experimenting with collaborations, self-producing projects, and crafting music that sparks thought and connection.
