Your city might not be hosting a World Cup match, but there’s still excitement! This summer, over 20 cities in 19 states will serve as training grounds for national teams. Of the 48 teams participating, 39 will be based in the U.S.
FIFA recently confirmed the training locations for each team. This World Cup will be a record-breaker, kicking off on June 11 and running through July 19. It’s the first one in the U.S. since 1994.
FIFA’s plan for base camps is not just about teams; it also aims to bring communities together. “These camps will boost local economies and engage fans,” said Andrew Ruiz, a sports economist.
Training Camp Highlights by State:
Arizona: Turkey will train in Mesa.
California: Seven teams will train here! Australia is at Oakland Roots, while the U.S. is in Irvine’s Great Park Sports Complex. Teams like Qatar and Austria will set up at Santa Barbara facilities.
Florida: Cape Verde will train in Tampa, while Portugal will camp in Palm Beach Gardens.
Missouri: England is at Swope Soccer Village, and the Netherlands will practice at the KC Current’s facility.
New Jersey: Teams like Haiti and Brazil will use Rutgers and New York Red Bulls’ facility, respectively.
Every team has chosen these locations for various reasons, from climate to local support. For example, Argentina is training in Kansas City, which is also hosting games. Fans are buzzing on social media, eagerly anticipating the chance to engage with the teams.
