NCAA East Regional Overview: University of New Orleans Track and Field
This week, four talented athletes from the University of New Orleans (UNO) will compete at the NCAA East Regional in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Competitors
Daryl Bachmann, Yoran Kabengele-Kabala, Olamipo Ladipo, and Keldrick Turner are set to represent UNO. Turner is making history as the first Privateer to compete in three events at an NCAA regional since Ismael Kone in 2022. He’ll race in the 200-meter and 400-meter preliminaries, and join the relay team for the 4×100-meter event.
Keldrick Turner’s Achievements
Turner has had an impressive season. He secured a bronze medal at the Southland Outdoor Championships with a personal-best time of 20.61 seconds in the 200 meters. This time is significant, ranking 45th in the East Region and 3rd in UNO’s history.
In the 400 meters, he broke his own school record several times, finally achieving a stunning 45.19 seconds, which currently ranks 10th in the East. This makes him a strong contender.
Other Competitors
Yoran Kabengele-Kabala qualified for the 100-meter dash with a competitive time of 10.197 seconds, placing him 5th in UNO’s all-time list. He’s eager to show his skills at this regional.
Bachmann and Ladipo will team up with Turner and Kabengele-Kabala for the men’s 4×100-meter semifinal. This squad set a school record of 39.40 seconds earlier this season, ranking 20th in the East.
Event Schedule
The events kick off with the 100-meter preliminaries at 6 p.m. CST, followed by the 200 meters at 6:25 p.m., and the 400 meters at 7:25 p.m. The top finishers will advance to the semifinals. The relay semifinals will occur Friday at 4 p.m.
