Exploring Delaware County’s Local Eats
When I traveled to Delaware County, I set out on a spontaneous adventure with just one goal: to enjoy local food. No plan, just a big appetite.
The day began with a breakfast sandwich that was unforgettable, a delicious banana pudding, and the warmth of friendly conversations. Each stop made me want to discover more of what Delaware County has to offer.
Morning Stop: Coastline Coffee Co.
I kicked off my day at Coastline Coffee Co., located near downtown Delaware. The café was light and airy, filled with coastal colors that contrasted with the gloomy Ohio weather outside. The highlight? The Green Room breakfast sandwich. It featured a fresh biscuit packed with egg, cheddar, sausage, avocado, and a drizzle of hot honey. Every bite was a burst of flavor that made me ready to take on the day.
I paired it with a Salty Surfer iced latte. The caramel, coconut, and sea salt blend created a perfect balance—sweet, but not overwhelmingly so.
Exploring Downtown Delaware
Next up was historic downtown Delaware. I strolled through charming shops like Beanbag Books and Goat Local, and even wandered onto the Ohio Wesleyan campus. The area was cozy, and I felt there was so much more to explore.
Lunch Stop: Bun’s Restaurant and Bar
After a few hours of walking, I found my way to Bun’s, one of the area’s oldest spots dating back to 1864. With its bright patio and friendly atmosphere, it was the perfect spot to take a break.
I tried the Reuben sandwich. The corned beef was just right—tender and packed with flavor. The crisp sauerkraut and creamy Thousand Island dressing perfectly complemented it. I also sampled the BBQ bacon burger. With two smashed patties, crispy bacon, onion rings, and smoky barbecue sauce, it was a must-try.
More than the food, the staff was fantastic. They shared stories about the restaurant’s history, making every visit feel special.
Afternoon Snack: Ciao Café
In the afternoon, I visited Ciao Café. This place had a bright vibe and a tempting pastry display. I ordered Biscoff gelato, a spinach and feta quiche, and a rich coffee. The gelato was creamy with delicious cookie bits, while the quiche was fluffy and packed with flavor.
Boardman Arts Park
With the weather improving, I took a stroll through Boardman Arts Park. This open space was filled with colorful, interactive art. I discovered creative installations, including a giant unicorn made from recycled materials. It was a fun way to engage with art while enjoying the fresh air.
Dinner: CJ’s Soul Food
For dinner, I closed my day at CJ’s Soul Food in Powell. As soon as I walked in, lively music and vibrant murals greeted me. I ordered barbecue rib tips with dirty rice and mac and cheese. The rib tips were smoky and sweet, bursting with flavor. The dirty rice had a nice kick, and the creamy mac and cheese was the perfect comfort food. I couldn’t resist trying their banana pudding for dessert—it was absolutely heavenly.
Dessert: Belgian Wafflewich
We ended our food journey at Belgian Wafflewich in Powell. Known for its stuffed Belgian waffles, I chose the New York Style Strawberry Cheesecake waffle. It was the perfect mix of sweet and light. The Ultimate Chocolate Godzilla waffle was decadently rich.
Drinks: Ohana Island Grill and Bar
We wrapped up the day at Ohana Island Grill and Bar. I tried a Painkiller cocktail that was tropical and refreshing, with a tang of pineapple and coconut. It felt like a mini-vacation in a glass.
A Perfect Day
As the sun set over Alum Creek, I felt a sense of peace wash over me. Driving home, I was already thinking about my next adventure in Delaware County.
