As the company gears up to showcase its offerings at Bharat Tex 2026 in New Delhi, they’re not just resting on their laurels. Their focus is shifting towards advanced fabric development and large-scale production.
In a recent conversation, N. Thirukkumaran, the Director of Esstee Exports, shared insights on their current performance, modernization efforts, and the future of the Indian textile sector.
Reflecting on the challenges of the past year, Thirukkumaran pointed out how global events affected the textile industry. The announcement of tariffs in the U.S. led to a dip in buyer confidence, resulting in a nearly 10% drop in sales. He also highlighted the ongoing crisis in West Asia, which has created disruptions in global trade and supply chains. He remains hopeful for recovery as free trade agreements are on the horizon in the next financial year.
Automation is becoming key for Esstee Exports. With five production units, they are investing heavily in technology to enhance productivity and efficiency. Thirukkumaran explained that automation addresses future workforce challenges by simplifying tasks and ensuring consistency in production.
One of their exciting initiatives involves a smart software platform that uses IoT and AI. This system monitors production in real time, spotlighting bottlenecks and improving efficiency. “We plan to launch this platform soon,” he revealed, emphasizing its importance for the entire manufacturing process.
Alongside tech improvements, sustainability remains a priority. Two of Esstee’s facilities have received LEED Platinum certification, and they are focusing on innovative, eco-friendly products. The company is exploring man-made fibers and structured fabrics that not only align with sustainability goals but also meet market demands.
At Bharat Tex 2026, Esstee Exports aims to introduce fabrics currently sourced from China, which are not widely produced in India. Thirukkumaran noted that they’re working on unique interlock fabrics combining different materials to optimize pricing while remaining competitive globally.
Looking ahead, Thirukkumaran is optimistic about Bharat Tex bringing more global interest. The previous edition was a success, generating valuable connections, including new clients from Hungary and Russia.
He envisions the upcoming showcase as a platform for enhancing visibility and creating more business opportunities. “Each edition keeps improving, and I’m excited for the next one,” he said appreciatively of the event’s organization.
Regarding future plans, Esstee Exports is set to expand beyond fashion into larger-volume markets. “To stay competitive, we need to reduce costs and enhance efficiency,” Thirukkumaran emphasized. With their advanced tech initiatives, he believes they will attract big clients soon.
As the General Secretary of the Tirupur Exporters’ Association, he sees great promise in the Indian textile industry’s future. Despite current challenges, he firmly believes in India’s potential on the global stage, with a bright outlook for growth in the coming decade.
