FAIRBANKS – Exciting news for rifle sports fans! The Alaska Nanooks rifle team has revealed its lineup for the 2026-27 season, promising five weekends of home matches at the Patty Center and TVSA.
The season kicks off with a home opener against Ohio State on October 16. The Nanooks had a great track record against the Buckeyes, winning their last 16 matches against them. The excitement continues as Alaska takes an early road trip to face UTEP and Nebraska the following weekend.
After a bye week, the action returns to Fairbanks with a tri-match on November 7 against the University of Akron and Schreiner University. It will be Akron’s first visit since the Nanooks recorded a win in the 2024-25 season.
The team’s competitive spirit will be tested with a two-day tri-meet against Air Force and Kentucky on November 21-22. This sets a thrilling pace for the season. In a highlight matchup, reigning national champions West Virginia will come to Fairbanks in January 2027 after their last face-off in January 2023, where Alaska clinched a close win.
As the season progresses, the Nanooks will embark on further road challenges, including matches against Air Force and Nebraska. They will compete at both the Air Force Rifle Range and the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
In February, the Nanooks gear up for the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska. They will wrap up their regular season with a match against Georgia Southern on February 18, leading into their NCAA Qualifier two days later.
Coach Randi Loudin expressed her enthusiasm: “We have a great range of competitions. Having multiple teams at most matches allows our athletes different environments to test their skills. We’re thrilled to see the Fairbanks community support the team throughout the season.”
