Immanuel Lutheran Church Supports Local Community by Donating to Bay College Food Pantry

ESCANABA – Bay de Noc Community College’s Food Pantry just received a $1,000 boost from Immanuel Lutheran Church. This donation came from the proceeds of the church’s annual Lenten breakfast.

Kari Meunier, the Director of Accessibility and Special Populations at Bay College, accepted the check from Barbara Denny and Linda McDonald of the church. The funds will support students who face food insecurity, helping them access the food and essentials they need to succeed.

The Food Pantry serves students at both the Escanaba and Iron Mountain campuses. It addresses hunger and ensures that students have access to nutritious meals. Donations like this one are vital for keeping these resources available and expanding support where it’s most needed.

“We are incredibly grateful to Immanuel Lutheran Church for their continued support,” Meunier shared. “Partnerships like this make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.”

The Lenten breakfast has been a cherished tradition at Immanuel Lutheran Church, gathering community members and raising funds for various local initiatives. This year’s contribution reflects the church’s ongoing commitment to service and outreach, led by chairperson Sandy Sovey.

Food insecurity is a growing issue among college students. According to a recent survey from the Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice, nearly 39% of college students struggle with hunger. This donation is a significant step toward addressing those challenges, reinforcing the importance of community support.

Bay College expresses deep appreciation to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Barbara Denny, Linda McDonald, and everyone involved in this generous effort. Together, we can help students thrive.
