T. Brajakumar Singh, Manipur’s Director of Environment and Climate Change, stressed the need to act now on climate change. He believes our generation has a unique chance to protect the planet. His remarks came during a college symposium held in honor of World Environment Day, themed “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”
He emphasized that the first step in addressing climate challenges is awareness. Engaging young people is key, and Singh’s department has been working on programs to get them involved. This symposium saw participation from 23 colleges, following earlier events for school students.
Singh praised the students for their impressive presentations, noting a real growth in their understanding of environmental issues. He expressed hope that their involvement would lead to meaningful action in protecting the environment.
He stated, “We must fight for our planet as if we are revolutionaries. If we neglect it, the consequences in 50 to 60 years could be unimaginable.” Singh highlighted urgent climate issues like rising temperatures, heavy rains, melting glaciers, and rising sea levels. These changes present serious problems for our society.
Recent data supports Singh’s concerns. A 2023 report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) found that climate change is accelerating, with extreme weather increasing globally.
Singh called for collective action, reminding us that every small effort counts. As we face worsening ecological conditions worldwide, it’s clear that protecting our environment is both a responsibility and a necessity.
