Indian Railways is gearing up to test the Vande Bharat Sleeper train in the next couple of months. This train aims to enhance long-distance travel across India, responding to the growing demand for more convenient overnight services.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the sleeper version will expand options for travelers, as the current Vande Bharat services only offer chair car configurations. This initiative aligns with the government’s vision to modernize rail travel and improve passenger experience.

The sleeper train trials will commence soon, with the first tests scheduled for the Bengaluru-Mangaluru route. This area is known for its challenging terrain, featuring numerous tunnels and sharp curves. The Railway Ministry’s Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) will oversee these tests.
Vaishnaw emphasized the government’s commitment to boosting rail infrastructure. Over the past decade, Indian Railways has built nearly 35,000 kilometers of new tracks to enhance connectivity. Recent statistics reveal that during the summer season, around 20,000 special trains operated, accommodating nearly 40 million passengers.

The Sakleshpur-Subrahmanya Road section, where the tests will occur, is particularly tricky. It includes 57 tunnels, 258 bridges, and 108 sharp curves, making it one of India’s toughest railway routes.
