The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is gearing up for trial runs in just a couple of months. This is an exciting development for Indian Railways as they aim to enhance long-distance travel options across the country.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw mentioned that there’s been a strong push from the public for sleeper services. Currently, the Vande Bharat Express only offers chair car seating.
In his remarks from New Delhi, Vaishnaw confirmed that the sleeper train trials would kick off soon. The Vande Bharat train is India’s first indigenously made semi-high-speed train and a key part of the Railways’ modernization plans.
The government is committed to improving rail infrastructure and passenger comfort over the coming years. Over the last decade, nearly 35,000 kilometers of railway tracks have been built to support this goal.
There is also a focus on enhancing travel options for low-income passengers. Indian Railways ran about 20,000 special trains during the last summer, helping around four crore passengers during peak travel times.
In another exciting update, the Bengaluru-Mangaluru Vande Bharat service has reached a crucial milestone. Final technical trials are set for the challenging Sakleshpur-Subrahmanya Road section of the Hassan-Mangaluru line. This stretch is notorious for its complexity, featuring 57 tunnels, 258 bridges, and 108 sharp curves through the Western Ghats.
The Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) is leading these advanced trials, starting June 1. Following these tests and their safety assessment, the Railway Ministry will make a decision on launching this much-anticipated service.
Safety is a top priority, and recent tests with an empty passenger rake were successful. This raises hopes that the Bengaluru-Mangaluru Vande Bharat service could start running soon, making travel easier for many.
As more data becomes available, it’s clear that Indian Railways is not just focused on expansion but also on improving passenger experience. Recent surveys indicate that many people favor convenient and comfortable rail travel options. This reflects a broader trend where comfort and efficiency are becoming essential for travelers.
