A meteor exploded over the northeastern United States on Saturday, surprising many with a loud boom that resonated across the region. According to NASA, the blast’s force was equivalent to 300 tons of TNT.
The fireball broke apart over northeastern Massachusetts and southeastern New Hampshire around 2:06 PM. Jennifer Dooren, a deputy news chief at NASA, clarified that this meteor was a natural object, not space debris or a satellite. It was traveling at an impressive speed of 75,000 mph (about 120,000 kph) when it fragmented at an altitude of 40 miles.
Many residents were startled by the deep rumbling sound that shook their homes. Social media lit up with reactions, as people shared their shock over the unexpected event. Nick Stewart, a meteorologist, noted the unique flash that indicated this was indeed a meteor entry.
