Four Indian-origin players are set to participate in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Hyderabad: While the Indian national football team will not participate in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, a total of four players of Indian origin will represent their respective countries in the tournament starting on June 11. FIFA has expanded the tournament format from 32 to 48 teams, organized into 12 groups.

India had qualified for the 1950 World Cup but withdrew before the tournament began.

The participating players include:

Sarpreet Singh (New Zealand): Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Sarpreet has Punjabi roots and plays as an attacking midfielder. At 27, he has made 26 appearances for the New Zealand team, scoring 3 goals and providing 7 assists.

Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid (Qatar): The 19-year-old winger was born in Doha to parents from Kannur, Kerala. He features for Al Duhail in the Qatari league and is the first Indian passport holder to play in the FIFA World Cup, holding both an Indian passport and a special Qatari mission passport.

Nishan Velupillay (Australia): A winger for Melbourne Victory, Nishan was born and raised in Melbourne. His father is of Sri Lankan Tamil descent, while his mother is Anglo-Indian. He has played seven matches for Australia, scoring three goals.

Samuel Moutoussamy (DR Congo): A 29-year-old midfielder born in Paris, Samuel has a background that includes Tamil descent. He plays as a central midfielder for the DR Congo national team.
