Why Donald Trump’s Approval Rating Surpasses Many Global Leaders: Insights and Analysis

Recent polls reveal that Donald Trump’s approval rating is higher than that of most world leaders. Conducted by Morning Consult from January 21 to 27, the survey shows Trump with a 52% approval rate, ahead of all but four leaders globally.

Among those who responded, 38% disapprove of him, while 10% are unsure. The leaders with higher ratings include:

  • Narendra Modi
  • Claudia Sheinbaum
  • Javier Milei
  • Karin Keller-Sutter

In contrast, some leaders are struggling with low approval ratings. For instance, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has only 22% approval, while Germany’s Olaf Scholz and France’s Emmanuel Macron have ratings of 20% and 18%, respectively. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s approval is even lower at 17%, following his controversial handling of martial law.

The survey highlights a clear contrast in leadership popularity worldwide, with Trump’s numbers indicating his strong political footing. Notably, a separate Emerson College poll also shows Trump with a 49% approval rating among registered voters, a sign of significant support after his presidency. This uptick comes after he left office in January 2021 with only a 34% approval rating.

Despite this resurgence in support, it’s essential to note that Trump is still one of the least popular U.S. presidents historically. His initial approval upon entering office was also on the lower end compared to past leaders. Some experts suggest that his current approval might be tied to a “honeymoon period,” common for new leaders, which often leads to fluctuations in support as their terms progress.

As we move forward, it remains to be seen if Trump’s improved ratings will be consistent or if they will shift once he faces the challenges of governance.
