Matthew McConaughey has a fun theory about football: he believes it’s all about selling food. He’s not alone in this thought; he’s gathered some big names from Hollywood to back him up.

In a recent commercial during the 2025 Super Bowl, McConaughey teamed up with director Greta Gerwig, singer Charli XCX, and even Martha Stewart. The ad ran during a thrilling game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles on February 9. This was a shorter version of a playful ad that was first released on February 4.
In the ad, McConaughey impersonates famous football coaches and players, including Mike Ditka and Peyton Manning. His goal? To convince Gerwig to make a film based on the idea that everything in American football is part of a big plan to promote food sales.
Despite his charming pitch, Gerwig isn’t convinced. It would have been exciting to see her direct a film starring McConaughey, but that collaboration might happen in the future.
