Bengaluru: India and the United Kingdom are strengthening their defence ties with a new initiative called Defence Partnership – India (DP-I), which was launched at Aero India. This partnership marks a significant step forward in their collaboration.
UK Defence Minister Lord Vernon Coaker introduced the UK-India defence partnership pavilion. This event is a key moment, as it establishes a new program office within the UK Ministry of Defence.
A major highlight of this initiative is the collaboration between Thales and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) on next-generation weapon systems. This partnership includes the delivery of Laser Beam Riding MANPADs (LBRM) and High Velocity Missiles (STARStreak). The launchers are set to be delivered within this year, enhancing India’s air defence capabilities.
During the event, Coaker emphasized the benefits of this collaboration. He pointed out that working together can unlock great potential for both countries while also supporting India’s Atmanirbhar initiative, which focuses on self-reliance and economic growth.
Additionally, British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, commented on India’s progress in becoming self-reliant in defence, noting that these agreements are crucial for boosting mutual economic growth and ensuring joint security.
