Seth Rogen is stepping into the role of a Hollywood studio executive in his new project, but he hasn’t forgotten where he came from.
Rogen’s journey began when he was a teenager on the show “Freaks and Geeks.” Despite its early promise, the series was canceled after just one season. This experience opened his eyes to how quickly things can change in the entertainment industry.
Rogen recalled, “My first experience in Hollywood was making something great that no one wanted, so that was a good tone setter.” In a recent interview with Esquire magazine, he shared his thoughts on the unpredictable nature of success in Hollywood.
“Freaks and Geeks,” which aired from 1999 to 2000, has since gained a cult following. The show featured a group of quirky high school students grappling with dreams and challenges, starring Rogen alongside James Franco, Linda Cardellini, and Jason Segel.
Even though it lasted only one season, Rogen learned a valuable lesson: “You can do everything right and still fail. You can do the best work, and it doesn’t mean anyone’s going to watch it.”
In his latest role in the upcoming Apple TV+ series “The Studio,” Rogen plays Matt Remick, the head of a struggling movie studio. This character is quite different from his previous role as Ken Miller in “Freaks and Geeks.” Rogen humorously suggested that Ken would now be “a statistic, unfortunately.”
In “The Studio,” Matt is passionate about films but fears he might ruin them. The show explores his challenges as he balances corporate pressures with the desire to make great movies. The cast also includes Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Catherine O’Hara.
Viewers can catch “The Studio” on Apple TV+ starting in March.
