Exciting news for HBCU fans! The 2025 NBA HBCU Classic, presented by AT&T, is set to be a vibrant celebration of culture and community. Scheduled for February 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. PT in Oakland Arena, this event promises a mix of basketball, entertainment, and professional development for HBCU students.
During the NBA All-Star weekend, the Classic will highlight Historically Black Colleges and Universities, with musical performances of the national anthem by artist PJ Morton and “Lift Every Voice” by Goapele. Morehouse College and Tuskegee University will face off in this exciting basketball matchup.
Both schools will receive $100,000 from the NBA and AT&T. The NBA is committed to creating meaningful experiences for students, offering various activities and workshops geared towards career development and networking.
Mark Tatum, NBA Deputy Commissioner, emphasized the importance of this event: “The NBA HBCU Classic is a chance to honor HBCU culture and create opportunities for students.” AT&T’s Chief Diversity Officer, Michelle Jordan, shared enthusiasm for supporting the next generation of leaders. “We’re here to help students connect and achieve their dreams,” she stated.
The weekend will kick off with a “Welcome to the Bay” event on February 13, where students, alumni, and supporters can celebrate and connect in a fun atmosphere. Foot Locker will host this event, including a meet-and-greet with NBA legend Mitch Richmond.
Community service is also a vital part of the weekend, as both schools’ teams will participate in the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service to give back to the San Francisco community.
Additionally, there will be a career development session, focusing on “Next Gen Trailblazers: Sport, Tech & Culture Innovators,” aimed at helping HBCU students gain valuable insights from NBA professionals and legends.
