Actor Raghu Ram recently discussed the controversy surrounding podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s comments on Samay Raina’s YouTube show, *India’s Got Latent*. While he doesn’t regret his participation, he expressed concern over some jokes that were made, saying they caused unnecessary hurt.
In a candid post on Instagram, Raghu shared, “I do not regret being part of *IGL*. However, I wish some jokes that caused hurt hadn’t been included. Audience sensibilities can vary greatly, and I might have chosen to leave out certain jokes.” He acknowledged that the creative decision lies with the show’s producers and not with him. He emphasized that freedom of speech comes with responsibilities, noting, “Offense can happen even when it’s not intended.”
Raghu also extended an apology if his presence on the show inadvertently hurt anyone. He stated, “Comedians often push boundaries and challenge societal norms, but they never intend to offend. If they do, they are quick to apologize.” He urged society to keep things in perspective and focus on more critical issues rather than just this one.
The controversy began when Ranveer made a provocative remark during an episode, asking a contestant a highly inappropriate question about their parents. This led to a significant backlash, prompting a formal complaint against him, Samay Raina, and the show’s organizers.
In response to the uproar, Samay took to Instagram to announce the removal of all *India’s Got Latent* episodes from his channel. He stated that his goal was to entertain and reassured followers that he would cooperate fully with any investigations.
In light of the incidents, the Maharashtra government has initiated an inquiry, assigning the cultural department to look into the complaints regarding inappropriate content in the show and others like it. Minister Ashish Shelar claimed they would conduct a thorough investigation following numerous complaints about vulgarity and lack of proper clearance for ticketed events.
