Exciting Green Day Movie Inspired by the Band’s Roots Now Filming in Oklahoma Through March!

Big news for music fans! Coachella 2025 will feature Lady Gaga, Post Malone, and Green Day as its headliners. The festival promises unforgettable performances over the three weekends.

In other exciting news, filming has begun for a new comedy film called “New Year’s Rev.” This road-trip movie draws inspiration from the early days of Green Day and follows the adventures of three friends on their way to Los Angeles to open for the band on New Year’s Eve.

The film captures a fun and wild journey across the country, showcasing the ups and downs of life on the road, much like the experiences of Green Day during their touring years. Production is taking place at Filmmakers Ranch in eastern Oklahoma City and kicked off in early February, running until mid-March.

This project has qualified for both the Oklahoma Film + Music Office’s state film incentive and the Oklahoma City film incentive. The goal of these incentives is to boost the local economy and create work opportunities for residents in the film industry.

Jeanette Stanton, director of the Oklahoma Film + Music Office, expressed excitement about supporting this project, highlighting its potential for community growth and employment in various roles, including crew members and extras. Recently, casting calls were announced, seeking a diverse mix of talent from actors to musicians.

“New Year’s Rev” will star not just Green Day, but also actors like Jenna Fischer and Sean Gunn. Fischer is celebrated for her role in the U.S. version of “The Office,” while Gunn appears in popular series like “Gilmore Girls” and Marvel films.

Other cast members include Mason Thames and Kylr Coffman, bringing together a talented ensemble. The film is directed by Lee Kirk, who is known for his previous work on offbeat romantic comedies. He often collaborates with Fischer, who is also his wife.

As for Green Day, the band members are involved as producers for the film. Billie Joe Armstrong shared in a statement how the project captures the essence of young artists chasing their dreams. He reminisced about the early days of touring, filled with exhaustion and excitement, and how those experiences shaped their musical journey.

The film aims to pay homage to the magic of live music and the friendships formed through shared experiences. While there’s no release date yet, the momentum is building, and fans can’t wait to see how this story unfolds.
