John Doucette has been capturing the spirit of Quaker Valley athletics since 1994. His journey started in Europe, and he brought that passion to Pittsburgh when he began teaching and coaching.
After spending a year at Butler School District, he embraced a teaching role at Quaker Valley, where he thrived for over two decades. Doucette retired in 2018 but stayed active in coaching. He has impacted youth sports and helped athletes grow, both in skills and confidence.
As the athletic director Mike Mastroianni puts it, “John has been a pillar of Quaker Valley athletics.” His work as a middle school track coach and now as a high school assistant coach reflects his commitment.
“I’ve seen many moments that don’t grab headlines but mean the world to families,” Doucette said, recalling how he cherishes documenting athletes during special events like senior nights.
Beyond athletics, Doucette taught history and developed impactful programs like Kiva, which connects students with global economic issues. QVMS students have raised significant funds through initiatives like a 5K race, showcasing their commitment to making a difference.
In addition to his photography, Doucette enjoyed seeing the world change through technology. From rolling his own film in a darkroom to embracing digital photography, he has witnessed an exciting evolution.
Living in Oakdale with his wife Heidi, John appreciates family time, especially with his grandkids. His dedication to teaching and coaching has created lasting memories, all captured through his lens.
As John continues to engage with young athletes, he also runs marathons. This spring, he prepares for his third Boston Marathon, a testament to his lifelong dedication to fitness and community.
John Doucette remains a local legend, capturing moments that highlight the heart of Quaker Valley sports.
