A man in Florida has been charged with attempted murder for shooting two visitors from Israel. The accused, Mordechai Brafman, 27, believed the victims were Palestinians, according to police reports.
On Sunday, Brafman was charged with two counts of attempted murder after the shooting incident in Miami Beach the night before. He is currently in custody, as listed in the Miami-Dade County Corrections database.
Witnesses reported that Brafman shouted about shooting Palestinians while he drove by in his truck. Thankfully, both victims, identified as a Jewish father and son, survived the attack. One man suffered a shoulder injury, while the other was hurt in the forearm.
In an interview, one of the victims, Ari Revay, described the terrifying moment they were shot at from a moving vehicle. “Boom, boom, boom,” he recounted, sharing how the shooter rolled down the window and fired at them.
This incident has raised concerns, especially amid increasing reports of violence and hate crimes. Advocacy groups note a troubling rise in anti-Muslim and anti-Semitic sentiments since the outbreak of conflict in Gaza earlier this month.
Nihad Awad, from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, emphasized that this shooting highlights the dangers facing the Palestinian-American community. He urged policymakers to address the anti-Palestinian sentiments that lead to real-world violence.
