Nintendo has confirmed that it will end the My Nintendo Gold Points program. After 24th March 2025, players won’t be able to earn more gold points. However, platinum points will stay the same.
Gold points were a nice perk. You could earn them when buying digital or physical Nintendo Switch games. They offered a good discount on future digital purchases, giving back about 5% of what you spent. It was a simple way to save some cash for upcoming games.
Good news: there are still ways to earn gold points after the cutoff. If you pre-order a digital game before the deadline, you will still get points, even if you pay after. You can also earn gold points by buying eligible physical games within a year of their release, as long as that release date is before 24th March.
Another detail to note is that any gold points you earn can be redeemed for up to 12 months. This could extend past the cutoff date, but it’s unclear if this applies to the new Switch 2.
It’s likely Nintendo will introduce a similar rewards program with the new console to keep that 5% incentive alive during its launch. We may see an announcement about that in 2025 or 2026.
Right now, this is disappointing. The Gold Points program has been a fantastic part of the Nintendo experience. Many of us will miss that little bonus on digital purchases.
