The City of Revelstoke is taking a big step to help people find affordable homes. They are teaming up with Community Futures Revelstoke and the Revelstoke Community Housing Society to make home ownership easier for local workers and middle-class families.
On February 11, the city announced that it will provide land at 127 and 141 Basford Drive in Columbia Park. This land will be used by Community Futures to build new homes that people can buy. What makes these homes special is that their prices will stay low, both for buying and selling. To qualify, buyers will need to either work locally or plan to retire in Revelstoke after working in the area for several years. More information about the program and eligibility will be available this spring.
This initiative is known as the Revelstoke Workforce Affordable For-Purchase Housing Program. It’s based on a successful program from the Whistler Housing Authority. The goal is to create opportunities for middle-income earners who are struggling to afford homes due to rising real estate costs.
Mayor Gary Sulz emphasized the importance of this program for the community. He believes it will help boost the local economy and ensure sustainable growth while addressing housing needs. Kevin Dorrius, the general manager of Community Futures, shared that this is a bold move that supports those who help keep the community thriving.
