CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The University of Northern Iowa (UNI) has some exciting news! Governor Kim Reynolds has appointed student Lucy Gipple to the Iowa Board of Regents.
Lucy is pursuing a degree in elementary education and also studies social and emotional learning. She will start her role during the Board’s meeting on February 27 in Urbandale.
UNI President Mark Nook shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I am excited for Lucy and her opportunity to serve our state on the Iowa Board of Regents. Lucy is a phenomenal student at UNI and I know she will represent herself very well in this capacity.”
The Iowa Board of Regents is made up of nine volunteers who are appointed by the governor. It’s interesting to note that one member must be a full-time student from one of Iowa’s three public universities, as stated in Iowa law.
At UNI, Lucy is actively involved in several groups, including Connecting Alumni to Students (CATS), Alpha Phi sorority, and the Panhellenic Executive Team. She’s also part of the 2025 orientation staff, helping new students feel welcome.
Originally from New Sharon, Iowa, Lucy graduated from North Mahaska High School. There, she held several leadership roles, including student body president and cheer captain for both football and basketball teams. Her strong commitment to her community and peers is sure to serve her well on the Board.
