Penticton Repeat Offender Sentenced for Illegal Firearm Possession: What You Need to Know

Aaron Ceretti from Penticton was sentenced in Kelowna court on February 19, 2025, for crimes connected to a December 2022 incident.

Ceretti has a long criminal history and faced serious charges: possessing a firearm with ammunition and another firearm in violation of a court order. These charges arose from an event at the SmartShopper store in downtown Penticton.

During the court proceedings, Ceretti’s lawyer and the Crown prosecutor agreed on a joint sentence proposal. Ceretti pleaded guilty to two charges: one for possessing a firearm with ammunition and another for breaching a court order. As part of the plea deal, the other charges, including theft and careless storage of a firearm, were dropped.

Judge Alison Beames sentenced Ceretti to over 1,000 days in prison. After accounting for time already served, he has 447 days left to serve. Additionally, he received a sentence of 180 days to run consecutively for the second charge.

Once he finishes his time, Ceretti must follow specific probation rules for two years. This includes staying away from the SmartShopper store and not owning any weapons or ammunition.

Interestingly, Justice Beames decided to waive the victim surcharge, a financial penalty often imposed in such cases.

Ceretti’s past includes a 2020 conviction for break-ins and drug-related charges from an eight-day crime spree, which originally got him a sentence of 1,090 days. However, due to credit for time served, he spent only one more day in custody.

He was also sentenced in 2021 for multiple probation violations after he left his designated residence in Princeton. Although faced with 15 counts, he pleaded guilty to six, which led to a reduced sentence of 190 days, plus an additional 30 days for these breaches.
