Discover How a Coldstream Songwriter’s New Video Highlights the Connection Between Music and Mental Health

Joseph Pinheiro is one half of the duo Phunk & Wangles. They just released a new video for their song “Keep Dusting.” This track explores the constant task of keeping your mind tidy.

“Keep Dusting” is part of their latest album, “Songs in the Key of Phunk.” Pinheiro describes it as a dive into the ongoing effort of mental maintenance in a fast-paced world. He says, “This is about the never-ending chore of ‘housekeeping’ your mind.”

Pinheiro emphasizes mental health awareness in the song. “Music and writing have always been my refuge,” he explains. “Whether you call it mental health, or simply clearing your head, it all matters.”

With everything going on in the U.S., Pinheiro feels that many people are doing extra mental housekeeping these days. He explains the video features archival footage instead of showing the duo. “We wanted to focus on the music, not ourselves. It’s about creating and letting the visuals come naturally.”

Their project continues to grow. While Wangles works with his band, The Odds, Phunk keeps pushing boundaries with their music. “Keep Dusting” is the newest addition to their album, which includes tracks like “Familia Portuguesa” and “Goodnight Gord.”

Pinheiro also shares, “This album reflects the changes I’ve encountered over the past few years. My lyrics paint scenes that I hope can connect with listeners.”

If you want to hear “Songs in the Key of Phunk,” it’s available on all streaming platforms.
