‘Ne Zha 2’ Shatters Records as Highest-Grossing Animated Movie of All Time, Surpassing .7 Billion!

Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 is making headlines as the highest-grossing animated film of all time, surpassing Inside Out 2. It’s now ranked No. 8 among all films globally.

As of Wednesday, Ne Zha 2 reached a staggering $1.7 billion worldwide, edging out Inside Out 2’s $1.699 billion. The film has earned about $1.72 billion in China alone, according to data from Maoyan.

While ticketing platforms in China often consider next-day presales for their calculations, industry reports tend to focus on finalized earnings for each business day. This difference in reporting can lead to variations in reported milestones.

The film’s projected earnings in China are now slightly adjusted to around RMB 15.1 billion (roughly $2.08 billion). If it hits that mark, it will surpass Star Wars: The Force Awakens, placing Ne Zha 2 as the fifth highest-grossing film of all time.

Currently, Spider-Man: No Way Home is just ahead with $1.95 billion at No. 7, while Avengers: Infinity War follows at No. 6 with $2.05 billion. Notably, Spider-Man: No Way Home did not release in China.

If Ne Zha 2 crosses the $2 billion mark in China, it will be the first film to achieve this milestone in a single market. The film has an extended theatrical run and is set to stay in Chinese cinemas until March 30, with a release planned in Hong Kong this week.

This film has already set several records, including being the highest-grossing film in a single market and the first non-Hollywood film to reach $1 billion.
