Delicia Bowling, the owner of Mandy’s Soul Food Kitchen, has some exciting news. Her beloved restaurant, a favorite in Bolingbrook, is moving to Aurora.
Now called The Soul Spot, the restaurant will open at Fox Valley Mall. Bowling is thrilled to be bringing her delicious soul food to a new community. “Aurora already feels like home. You all have welcomed me with open arms,” she said.
Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin shared this great news during a recent city council meeting. Fox Valley Mall executives joined him to present Bowling with a “Signed Contract” award, officially welcoming The Soul Spot to the city.
Irvin emphasized that this new restaurant reflects Aurora’s diverse and growing business scene. “This is a major win for commerce, our community, and the culture,” he noted.
Fans of Mandy’s Soul Food Kitchen will be glad to know that the essence of the restaurant isn’t changing. The same talented cooks and the favorite menu items are staying, including dishes like fried chicken, collard greens, banana pudding, and sweet potato pie.
The Soul Spot is set to open early next month. Many locals are eagerly anticipating the reopening. Sheila Nunnes, a local minister, expressed her excitement after a recent disappointment. She drove to Bolingbrook craving shrimp and grits, only to find Mandy’s closed. “I’m so happy it is reopening in Aurora. I’ll be there with my fork, spoon, and knife ready,” she said.
