New Delhi: Bhutan’s Prime Minister, Dasho Tshering Tobgay, warmly referred to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his mentor and big brother during his speech at the inaugural SOUL Conclave at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Tobgay expressed his eagerness to learn from PM Modi, stating, “I am here as a student. I see Modi ji as a guiding figure who always supports me.” He praised Modi’s leadership, noting, “In just ten years, PM Modi has set India on a remarkable path of development. His direction has sparked an unprecedented wave of transformation.”
Every meeting with Modi inspires Tobgay to dedicate himself even more to public service. He described the SOUL initiative as a reflection of Modi’s commitment to fostering genuine leaders who are dedicated to serving the Indian populace.
Highlighting the essence of leadership, Tobgay said, “Leadership isn’t about titles or positions; it’s about having a vision, courage, and the ability to inspire change.” He believes a true leader acts when others hesitate and sees potential where others might doubt.
Tobgay listed various initiatives launched by Modi, such as Make in India and Digital India, which he believes have lifted around 30 million people out of poverty and boosted the Indian economy.
He commended Modi for embodying the qualities of a Bodhisattva—wisdom, courage, and compassion—and expressed confidence that India is on the verge of becoming a “Viksit Bharat,” or developed nation.
“A Viksit Bharat will be your legacy, and SOUL will uphold that legacy,” he added, while also seeking Modi’s guidance for Bhutan’s public sector development.
