Bethenny Frankel Critiques Meghan Markle’s ‘Too-Perfect’ Lifestyle Rebranding: Why It’s Alienating Fans

Bethenny Frankel recently shared her thoughts on why Meghan Markle’s lifestyle company is facing criticism. In a TikTok video, the former “Real Housewives of New York City” star addressed Markle’s rebranding of her company from American Riviera Orchard to As Ever, suggesting that Markle might be struggling with her identity.

Frankel pointed out that Markle seems unable to connect with her audience. She remarked, “Meghan Markle can’t win for losing.” Viewers have reacted mixedly to her image, feeling frustrated when Markle looked polished and perfect in the trailer for her Netflix cooking show, while also reacting negatively to a more casual image in her rebranding video.

Initially, Markle embraced a glamorous lifestyle fitting her Malibu home. “Commit to the bit,” Frankel said, encouraging Markle to fully embrace her luxurious image. Instead, after receiving backlash, Markle seems to have shifted to a more natural portrayal. Frankel believes this change has confused viewers, who are left wondering where the polished content went.

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, have struggled to find their place. Frankel emphasized that it’s tough to be authentic if one is unsure of their own identity. She noted that there’s a gap between who Markle was before becoming royal and who she wants to be now. Frankel argues this isn’t just a branding problem—it’s deeper and relates to how Markle sees herself.

In her TikTok, Frankel explained that the couple appears eager to gain public approval, which leads to mixed messages. “They are flailing,” she said, noting that their attempts to fit in often fall flat. This week, Markle announced the rebranding of her lifestyle company just ahead of her Netflix show launch. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been well received. A clothing company criticized Markle for using the name As Ever, claiming trademark infringement, and a mayor in Spain accused her of copying a local coat of arms with her logo.

A source clarified that Markle’s As Ever aims to be a lifestyle brand focused on home goods rather than clothing. She first hinted at this venture last March with a jam product, and plans to expand into various home items such as cutlery, drinkware, and cookbooks.
